This is 2011 and Hip Hop ain't what it used to be. I think i prefer this era to about 6 years ago, when the South had it on lock down. No disrespect to the southerners, but i just wasn't a fan of the snap-rap thing. Of course i give two-thumbs to Ludacris, UGK, T.I, and some few other very dope rappers from the south. Anyway, i have decided to write on which rap crew consider the hottest in hip hop right now.
We have Shady 2.0 (eminem, yelawolf and Slaughterhouse), The Roc Nation Crew (Jay-Z, J.Cole and Jay Electronica), The G.O.O.D Music Crew (Kanye West, Kid Cudi, Big Sean, Cypha Tha Prince), MMG (Rick Ross, Wale, Pill and Meek Mill), and Young Money (Lil Wayne, Drake, Tyga, Niki Minaj, Cory Gunz...).
I think all the crews i have mentioned have some very dope rappers in them, but i want to pick out the one that are the hottest right now. Roc Nation is the least hottest if you ask me. Okay Jay-Z is one of the best to ever do it, and J.Cole is dope in his era, but they aint putting out enough work. Jay had to team up with his long time friend and associate, and head of G.O.O.D Music, Kanye West, to form The Throne, to be as relevant as he is right now. And spending lesser time developing his own people.
I think G.O.O.D is doing good. Kanye still has a huge followership. And Big Sean is not doing badly for himself. He has 3 songs on the Billboard top 100 singles chart. But, that is just two guys in a crew of like 4...5 maybe. By the way, Common is nolonger with G.O.O.D Music. Pusha T is doing his thing, but his buzz is not large enough.
Shady 2.0 are doing great. They have some lyrical monsters back there. I think the weakest link is that crew is Yelawolf. He is cool, but not extra-ordinary or anything. You have to agree with me. Eminem is still the highest selling rapper in Hip Hop, but the other guys are not living up to the shady record hype. Yelawolf does not have any real hot single out that is constantly bumping on radio, and his album is not doing so well as long as sales is concerned. and Slaughterhouse (joe budden, crooked I, Joell Ortitz and Royce Da 5'9) are still working on their Shady Records debut.
MMG is doing great, Meek Mill did his thing through the year, and now it is Wale's turn. Rick Ross has not gone anywhere since...he is always on the scene with some new new music. I think he is one hardworking Muthafucker. But, i think they have hotter singles, than high selling albums.
I got to give it to Young Money. Nicki Minaj is official the Queen of hip hop. There is no contesting that right now. I am a bigger Lil Kim fan than i am a Nicki fan, but right now, i put kim in that Goddess status. She has done her thing, and she was the Queen for so long, so, it is Nicki's turn. Her album has gone platinum. Drake's album is platinum. Lil Wayne's Carter 4 is double platinum. Which other rap crew is selling like them? None. All the singles they drop shoot up the chart all the time...from Wayne to Drake to Nicki. I am sure they would shop Cory Gunz out next year. And maybe Jae Millz...those two are some really really dope rappers on no bullshit tip.
If you dispute any of what i have said here, let me know.
