An Old English Stage Coach

At WD's Conference of Wargamers I passed on an old English Stage Coach I had built for Sue L-B (for her game Gentlemen Go by) .. It's a smugglers and revenue men game, and she'd decided to muddle the play with the arrival of a Stage Coach - then couldn't find an appropriate model.

Phil and Sue have always been very supportive, so I offered to fix the problem by making one.

As usual, I prefer to convert rather than scratch build, and am comfortable a with banal starting point.

In this case, the pink carriage is from a cake decoration train set - in the first frame you see one alongside the adapted version (reprofiled with that scoop shape, and adapted with bits of seating from a chopped up Peter Pig staff carriage glued on top).

The yellow chassis is the Peter Pig one, and in frame 2 I am making the big spring/bracers that the cab sits in (strips from folded puree tube sheets, rolled at the ends)

The horses are a mix picked mainly to get the prominent collars that just 'look right' with this subject.

I'm pleased how it came out (see those characteristic supports ...) ... seen here trundling though a village of ornaments ...

The time, of course, went on the cab, not on the horse harness (which isn't modelled) - I didn't want to get told off for spending lots of time on the model so focussed more on giving it a nice shiny paint job with a period trim.

As is usually the case with historical models, I know now a bit more about coaches than before the build.  A good result all round.
